The one human Akkermansia trial was a pilot: 40 insulin-resistant adults with overweight or obesity were enrolled, 32 finished three months, taking 10 billion bacteria a day, live or pasteurized, against placebo 2.
It was safe and well tolerated. The pasteurized group had better insulin sensitivity. Body weight fell by 2.27 kg compared with placebo, but that was not statistically significant. Fat mass and hip circumference showed small drops. That is a pilot, with few people, so it generates ideas rather than answers. For B. breve at the label strain, we found nothing to cite.
