Mangosteen
Mangosteen in Trimoryn: 100 mg of Powder, One Small Pilot and a Sugar Note
Mangosteen powder is 100 mg of the Trimoryn capsule. It is a tropical fruit, and its extracts are sold for weight management and antioxidants. The research we found is one small 26-week pilot in 22 women, which MSK says needs confirmation. The fruit is high in sugar, which matters if you have diabetes.

The ingredient01
What is mangosteen?
Mangosteen is a purple tropical fruit with a sweet white pulp, grown in Southeast Asia, and its rind and pulp are used in foods and traditional remedies.
The label lists "Mangosteen Powder", with no extract ratio and no part of the fruit. That matters, because the rind holds compounds the pulp does not. MSK says mangosteen has been used traditionally for skin infections and diarrhea, and that it has not been shown to treat cancer in people 1.
Dose02
How much mangosteen is in one Trimoryn capsule?
One capsule holds 100 mg of mangosteen powder, the same weight as the prickly pear and cinnamon lines, and the second largest line after riboflavin's percent.
The pilot trial we found did not state its dose in the abstract, so we cannot compare the label amount with a studied amount 2. We would rather say that than guess. A tenth of a gram of powder is a small amount of a fruit that is mostly water and sugar when fresh.

| Name on the label | Mangosteen Powder |
|---|---|
| What it is | Garcinia mangostana, a tropical fruit |
| Amount per capsule | 100 mg |
| Amount used in research | One 26-week pilot in 22 women used mangosteen extract (dose not on the label) |
| Strength of evidence | One small pilot; MSK says confirmatory studies are needed |
| Marketed or traditional use | Sold for weight management and antioxidants |
| Main caution | MSK: the fruit is high in sugar (note for diabetes); interaction data are lab-based. |
Evidence03
Does mangosteen help with weight? What does the research show?
The evidence is one small pilot. Twenty-two obese women with insulin resistance were randomized to behavioral therapy alone or with mangosteen, and twenty finished 26 weeks 2.
The mangosteen group had a larger drop in HOMA-IR, a score of insulin resistance, falling 53 percent against 15 percent, and no side effect was blamed on treatment. That is a lab score, not weight. The abstract does not give a weight difference we could use. MSK says extracts were found useful for weight management in studies but that confirmatory studies are needed 1.
| Item | Finding |
|---|---|
| Human trials found | One small pilot |
| People who finished | 20 of 22 women |
| Length | 26 weeks |
| What improved | Insulin-resistance score |
| Weight benefit proven | No |
Safety04
Is mangosteen safe? What should you watch for?
The pilot reported no side effect attributed to treatment. That is reassuring but small, and it does not make mangosteen risk-free.
MSK flags the fruit's sugar content as a caution for people with diabetes, and notes that interactions with drug-handling enzymes are known mainly from laboratory work 1. A 100 mg dose of powder carries very little sugar, but the label does not say how the powder is made. If you take diabetes medicine or any daily tablet, ask your pharmacist.
Marketing05
Why is mangosteen sold in weight and wellness products?
Mangosteen is sold as an antioxidant fruit and, more recently, as a weight-management extract, helped by exotic branding and a pilot study.
The word "superfruit" has no scientific meaning. Antioxidant content in a test tube does not show a benefit in a person. One reason the fruit turns up in weight products is that the small pilot showed a lab change in women who were also receiving behavioral therapy. Both groups did, so the extra effect was the question, and one small study cannot settle it.

What does mangosteen add to Trimoryn, and what does it not?
Mangosteen adds a plant powder with one small pilot behind it. It adds a story more than a proven effect.
It is one of three 100 mg plant lines, which together make the capsule look substantial. Of the three, mangosteen has the thinnest human evidence, and that is no insult to the fruit: it is simply new to research. If you like fruit, eating the fruit is a better-studied way to get the plant compounds, with fiber too.

Where does mangosteen sit among the other Trimoryn lines?
Each Trimoryn line has its own printed amount, so you can see how mangosteen compares in weight with the rest.
Bars are drawn to the largest milligram line, 100 mg. Hover or focus a row to light it. Probiotic bars are symbolic, since CFU is a count of bacteria and not a weight. Weight on the panel is not the same as importance, and a small line can matter more for safety than a large one.

Ask first08
What should you ask before taking mangosteen?
Ask your clinician whether a fruit powder fits with your blood-sugar plan and your medicines.
- Does the sugar in this fruit matter for my diabetes plan?
- Does it overlap with another supplement I use?
- Is there anything about my medicine and plant extracts I should know?
FAQ09
Trimoryn questions people ask
What is mangosteen powder?
It is a dried, ground form of the mangosteen fruit. The label says Mangosteen Powder, 100 mg, and does not say which part of the fruit is used.
Is mangosteen good for weight loss?
One small pilot found a larger drop in an insulin-resistance score in women using mangosteen, with no weight claim proven. MSK says confirmatory studies are needed.
Can mangosteen affect blood sugar?
MSK notes the fruit is high in sugar, which matters for diabetes. The pilot measured an insulin-resistance score, not a treatment effect.
Does mangosteen interact with medicines?
MSK says drug-enzyme interactions are known mostly from lab studies. Ask a pharmacist if you take daily medicine.
Is mangosteen juice the same as the powder?
No. Juice and powder differ in amount and in sugar. The label amount is for the powder only.
Is mangosteen safe in pregnancy?
The label says not for pregnant or nursing mothers, so do not use the capsule. We found no mangosteen-specific source that says otherwise.
