Turmeric and Your Liver: What the 15 mg Line Does and Does Not Tell You
Reports of liver injury have been linked to concentrated turmeric products, mostly higher-dose or specially made forms. Trimoryn lists 15 mg of turmeric extract (95% curcumin) a capsule. The amount is small, but if you have liver disease or take medicine, ask first.

The reports01
Has turmeric been linked to liver problems?
Yes. Case reports have linked concentrated turmeric and curcumin products to liver injury, usually in forms made to be absorbed better and at higher amounts.
The cooking spice is not the same thing. Cases involve extracts and branded products, and some include added ingredients such as black pepper extract. The NCCIH says it does not know enough to say turmeric or curcumin is beneficial for any health purpose 1, and it describes highly bioavailable curcumin forms in its own notes. We cannot tell you how common the problem is, because we found no source that gives a rate for this capsule.
The label02
What does 15 mg on the label mean?
It means each capsule has 15 mg of turmeric extract standardized to 95% curcumin. That works out to a little over 14 mg of curcumin.
| Item | Label |
|---|---|
| Ingredient | Turmeric extract (95% curcumin) |
| Amount per capsule | 15 mg |
| Capsules a day | One, preferably 15-30 minutes before a meal |
| Black pepper extract on the panel? | No, none is listed |
| Lab report for the lot | Not published that we could find |
Standardizing to 95% curcumin tells you the share of one compound. It does not tell you the lot was tested, or that the powder is clean. Ask the seller for a lot report if purity matters to you, since a "standardized" label does not necessarily guarantee quality or consistency 2.
A small amount does not make a product safe for everyone. It only means the number is lower than many stand-alone curcumin products. Our Supplement Facts page shows every line.
Ask first03
Who should ask a clinician first?
Anyone with liver disease or a history of liver trouble, anyone who takes blood thinners, and anyone on chemotherapy should ask first.

FAQ06
Trimoryn questions people ask
Is the turmeric in a capsule the same as turmeric in curry?
No. The capsule holds a concentrated extract, while cooking uses a small amount of the spice.
Does Trimoryn contain black pepper extract?
No black pepper extract appears on the Supplement Facts panel.
Should I get a liver test before using a supplement?
Ask your clinician. They know your history and which tests make sense.
Is alcohol a concern with turmeric products?
It can add stress to the liver. Ask your clinician how much, if any, is safe for you.
