A pooled review of five trials found no significant change in body weight.
The 2015 review pooled five randomized trials of cactus pear. Body weight differed by about 0.83 kg from placebo, and the range crossed zero, so the result was not significant. BMI, body fat percent, blood pressure and total cholesterol were lower in the treated groups. Side effects were stomach intolerance and flu-like symptoms. The authors wrote that the evidence does not show a meaningful effect on body weight 1. Only five trials were pooled, and the products differed.
