Why does a blood-sugar note appear for mangosteen?
Two reasons: the whole fruit is sweet, and one small study tracked an insulin score.
Memorial Sloan Kettering says mangosteen fruit is high in sugar, a point for people with diabetes 1. What did the pilot study measure?
It measured HOMA-IR, a score that estimates insulin resistance, in 22 women, with 20 finishing.
The score fell more in the mangosteen group than in the group with behavioral therapy alone, and the paper reported no side effect from treatment 2. The trial was small and had a short list of volunteers. The summary we read does not address people on diabetes drugs, and the trial did not test a mixed formula.
