What One Small Akkermansia Trial Did and Did Not Show
The best-known human trial of Akkermansia muciniphila was a pilot with 40 adults enrolled and 32 finished, over three months, using 10 billion bacteria a day. What did the Akkermansia trial actually test?
It tested whether the bacteria were safe and what they did to blood markers, in a small group with insulin resistance.
The pilot enrolled 40 adults who were overweight or obese and insulin resistant. Thirty-two completed the three months. People took 10 billion Akkermansia muciniphila a day, either live or pasteurized, or a placebo 1. The authors called it a proof of concept. It was not designed as a weight-loss trial.

What were the results?
The treatment was safe and well tolerated, and the clearest gains were in insulin markers for the pasteurized group.
Versus placebo, the pasteurized group had better insulin sensitivity, lower insulin and lower total cholesterol. Body weight fell slightly versus placebo, by 2.27 kg, but the P value was 0.091, which means the change was not significant 1. A non-significant result can be chance.

Why is one small trial not enough?
Small trials are good at raising questions and poor at answering them.
Eight people left before the end, which can skew a result. The group was a specific one, so adults with other health profiles may respond differently. No other result is on file in our sources to confirm it. Look for these signs before you trust a claim:

- A weight result that clears the significance bar

How does the Trimoryn line compare?
The label lists 1 billion CFU, one tenth of the trial's 10 billion.
CFU counts live organisms that can form colonies. Pasteurized bacteria are no longer live, so a CFU count would not describe them. The label does not say which form is in the capsule.
